The hand-painted chessboard, measuring 55cm x 55cm, is crafted over several days using up to eight layers of specialised paints and polishing. This meticulous process produces a dramatic, liquid-like finish of exceptional depth and beauty.
Paired with Purling Bold Boxwood chess pieces, each inspired by the traditional Staunton design and showcasing Purling’s distinctive Knight, this set blends heritage with contemporary artistry.
The hand-carved chess pieces are finished with two layers of base-coat primer. One side is completed with two coats of high-gloss paint and crystal-clear lacquer for a radiant shine, while the opposing side is finished with toughened matt paint for a silky, tactile effect. Triple-weighted, each piece is completed with an Italian Nappa leather felt base, embossed with the Purling logo in 18-carat gold.
