The hand-painted board, measuring 55cm x 55cm, is crafted over several days with up to eight layers of specialised paints and polishing. This meticulous process produces a dramatic, high-impact aesthetic unlike any other.
The set includes Purling Bold Boxwood chess pieces, hand-carved and inspired by the classic Staunton design, featuring Purling’s distinctive Knight. Both sides of the pieces are coated with two layers of base-coat primer, with one side receiving two layers of high-gloss paint, finished with two layers of crystal-clear lacquer and the opposing side – two layers of toughened matt paint, to produce a wonderfully silky finish. Triple-weighted and beautifully balanced, every piece is completed with an Italian Nappa leather base felt, embossed with the Purling logo in 18-carat gold.
