Inspired by the Japonisme art movement of the late nineteenth century, the Bold Chess Set in Peacock Blue & Light Gold reflects the lavish aesthetic celebrated by James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s masterpiece, The Peacock Room. This vibrant and elegant pairing of colours creates a dramatic, artistic statement.

Blending classic Staunton-inspired design with modern craftsmanship, each piece is hand-turned and hand-carved, featuring Purling’s distinctive Knight design.

The luxury hardwood chess pieces are meticulously hand-painted and finished in London through a six-stage process: two layers of base coat primer, two coats of high-gloss paint, and two coats of crystal-clear lacquer, producing a deep, glossy and durable finish.

Each piece is completed with a soft Italian Nappa leather felt base, embossed with the Purling crown logo in 18-carat gold, and every set includes four Queens for effortless pawn promotion.

The set is paired with a 44cm x 44cm Italian alabaster stone chess board, enhancing the sophisticated Peacock Blue & Light Gold colourway with timeless refinement.
